Only 14 referees of the 38 registered attended the annual fitness test on the 24th January 2009. These 14 will be registered for the mean time. The rest will have to wait till they fulfilled the requirement of attending the seminar and the fitness test. The FIFA fitness test is adopted which includes the 6 x 40 m run (6.4 seconds) and the 20 x 150 m intermittent run (30 seconds run and 40 seconds walk). 9 referees who trained themselves or had undergone the fitness training program by the referees department had no problem in going through the test. Two more seminars will be held to enable other to join. They will held on the 2 - 5 February 2009 and 20 - 23 January 2009. The department is planning to go to the atolls to recruit more referees. Referees who are not registered will not be appointed for matches by FAM and will not receive the equipments for this year. This year the President has also agreed to insure all match officials.
